This equatorial region is only really accesible by boat and they travel in their armed modern day steamer with a flotilla of local craft.To provide this security they recruit some of their old troopers from Chad but also recruit amongst the disaffected locals as they go. Along with them also orignally from southern Chad goes Beatrice, Alice best mate as chief of staff. Her Chicago doctor husband provides the medical side of things.There is a rebellion in the north of both countries and it is travelling south towards their oil concessions. Their opponents appear to be a rival french oil company, local tribal and political factions and their foreign advisors along with old enemies. The government troops and not much better than the rebels. Pygmies, cannibals and Levantine traders all add to this strange and colourful milieu of life along the jungle fringed rivers plus the local wildlife.The fire devils as the ginger haired Alice is known as choose sides and sail through the blood of a half civil war to first find and then try to keep any oil concessions they discover.
